About the Book...

As editor for one of the most popular ASP/ASP.NET Web resources, 4GuysFromRolla.com, I receive many emails each day from readers around the globe asking assorted Web programming questions. When ASP.NET broke onto the scene in January 2002, one of the most frequent questions I continually received was, "How can I do blank with the ASP.NET data Web controls?"

Noticing the large number of such queries sent directly to me, along with the massive volume of posts to the Data Web Controls Forum at the ASP.NET Forums (over 22,000 posts as of May 2003) and the microsoft.public.dotnet.framework.aspnet.datagridcontrol newsgroup (nearly 4,000 such posts as of May 2003), I decided that the demand warranted a book aimed exclusively at these powerful controls.

Starting in July 2002, I began writing what became ASP.NET Data Web Controls Kick Start. By the end of December of that year, I had completed the writing and editing process, finishing up with a book with over 400 pages of solid material on the DataGrid, DataList, and Repeater controls.

The book, published by Sams Publishing, hit bookstores in February 2003. I established this Web site in May 2003 to complement the book, providing FAQs and recommended articles on the ASP.NET data Web controls.

ASP.NET Data Web Controls Kick Start has had many glowing reviews. (You can see a compilation of some of the many positive reviews at the Reviews Page.) For example, Marcie Robillard, a.k.a. DataGridGirl, says:

"I'm currently reading Scott Mitchell's new book, ASP.NET Data Web Controls. This is the book that could put me out of business as a Datagrid question-answerer because most of the answers I give are in this book! Everything you ever wanted to know about the Datagrid, Repeater, and DataList from the ground up, including a lot of advanced material. Do not walk -- RUN to the right-hand side of your screen to the cover link and buy this book now."

I hope you decide to pick up a copy of ASP.NET Data Web Controls if you haven't already. If you've yet to grab a copy for yourself, you can read a free online sample chapter: Chapter 3: Customizing the HTML Output.

Happy Programming!
